Thank you so much - we’re so glad you’re enjoying the brush and finding it great for detail work 😊
The brushes are very good, it is fun to paint with them. They hold a lor of water and have a really sharp point. I did not try the silk paper yet, I wait to get better.

Very satisfied with my 3 brushes. They hold their point and they carry the pigments very well. The only little negative is that I had to fabricate a way to suspend them for them to dry nicely
Store owner replied:
Thank you so much - we’re really glad you’re happy with the brushes and that they’re holding their point and carrying pigment well 😊 We appreciate your feedback about drying them and will keep that in mind too!

I’m enjoying the warm up tutorials. Just one day of actually painting cherry blossom. I’m using Stonehenge Aqua cold press. Im going to the city this weekend and get some different paper, maybe some rice paper, too. Is Mulberry paper a good choice?
Store owner replied:
Thank you for sharing! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the warm up tutorials. Stonehenge Aqua is a great start, and exploring different papers like rice paper or Mulberry can be a fun way to see how your paints behave. Keep experimenting - you’ll discover what works best for your style! Beautiful art work, thank you for sharing!
Great for details, that need to be precise!
This was just my first time using it, but I love it.

Thank you kindly for your feedback! It’s wonderful to hear you’re getting so much from using the brush, it really is fantastic!
I looked forward to getting brushes and the e course which my husband bought for my birthday.
It felt a bit frightening to even start. Diane very kindly made comments on the painting I sent her. Her comments on negative space I found very useful. My work seems thick and clumsy but I enjoy having a go.
I’m very impressed with how much paint the brushes hold. I haven’t the confidence yet to paint on silk but I enjoy the hot pressed paper. I’ve started the painting of the pigeon and it’s shading on Diane’s YouTube. I’m enjoying it very much. It’s so kind of Diane to provide such good ongoing support.
Store owner replied:
Thank you Catherine for your thoughtful review! It means a lot to hear this, you're very welcome for the support :) happy painting!
The only thing I asked for this Christmas were Diane’s brushes, and I was so excited when I opened them! They’re absolutely beautiful. I’ve had so much fun painting loose florals with them. I still have a lot to learn, but I already know these will be my new go-to brushes—the marks they make are just stunning. Thank you, Diane! I have a feeling I’ll be back for more.

I absolutely love the silk paper and the brushes are amazing. I can instantly feel the difference in handling and brush strokes. I am very grateful for this experience. In fact I was just about to begin a new painting. I’ve always been obsessed with watercolor now I’ve added chinoiserie to my obsession. Thank you Diane for your expertise in this medium. I’m saving up to get the Art E book. Peace and Blessings!!

I love the brush. I'm still learning how to use it more delicately to achieve finer, more elegant lines. It arrived in perfect condition and was very easy to work with and prep it under warm water. I highly recommend the detail brush. Silvina L. New York.

The chinoiserie brushes are the best brushes I have tried and I have a few.. Such ease of movement & flow also love that you can make a point or sword for fantastic results very good at holding water as well. The detail brush is just amazing for fine details and also holds liquid well for great line work
Store owner replied:

In the beginning, I spent a few months painting with cheaper calligraphy brushes. They worked, but after some time they started to fall apart — with one of them, the entire bristle bundle even came out (luckily not right on a painting). 😇
When Diane’s brushes arrived, I was excited from the very first moment. They absorb color beautifully, are just the right softness, and still hold their shape perfectly. Painting with them feels joyful and effortless — such a different experience. I’m even considering getting another set. 😍
In the video, I’m painting an oleander from Diane’s mini course. 🌸

These brushes have been a dream to work with! I have been postponing this review for over a month in order to use them more and give my honest opinion, based on my actual experience with them.
So, here is more about these brushes: their shape and size allow to hold a lot of paint (meaning less reloading, more focus on the actual painting, easier blending); their hairs are so soft - the brushes glide onto the paper; blending happens effortlessly; detail brushwork is on another level. They just do the work and do it with ease - this is how you know that these are THE BRUSHES you'll ever need. My previous experience is with round watercolor brushes and other regular chinese brushes, but none of them were able to help me achieve the desired results, especially for painting in the chinoiserie style. Speaking from experience - it's better to invest in high quality art materials, rather than trying a ton of cheaper options and feeling disappointed in the end. Wishing you happy painting!
Store owner replied:
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m so happy you’re loving how light and precise the brushes feel. Don’t worry about how far you have to go, every brushstroke is progress, and you’re building your skills beautifully 💖
I love these brushes! I love how well they hold their shape and point making detailed work and gradient work so easy to do. I like the stiffness of these brushes which gives me more control. I have other chinese brushes which are too soft and don’t work well for the chinoiserie techniques. I’m really happy I invested in these brushes. Oh and the detailed liner is amazing how much control I get making fluid detail lines. 🤩
I recently purchased the Chinoiserie Brush Set from Diane Hill, and I have to say—it completely transformed my painting experience. I honestly didn’t expect brushes to make such a difference, but these truly elevated both the precision and flow of my work. The quality is exceptional, and they feel like an extension of your hand—so intuitive, smooth, and responsive.
Thank you, Diane, for creating tools that not only look beautiful but also genuinely enhance the creative process. It’s clear how much thought and care went into designing these. I couldn’t recommend them more to anyone looking to take their painting to the next level.
I love these brushes ! They hey are the best I have ever used and I have bought some expensive ones over the years !
They hold the paint and water so well and the fine points are fabulous!
Thank you Diane 🙏🏻🌸🌸

I bought cheaper brushes but couldn't get on with them...this was my first cherry blossom painting yesterday with Diane's brushes...absolutely no comparison ...I truly love how they hols so much paint but the fine details you can achieve are wonderful. I'm not an artist just dabbled with watercolour flowers but I will be a chinoiserie artist one day x
Store owner replied:
This is so lovely to read! I’m delighted the detail brush has made such a difference for you. Your first cherry blossom painting looks wonderful, and I love your determination. 🌸 Keep going step by step, you’re already becoming the chinoiserie artist you dream of being!
I finally got a chance to try out my brushes with your mini course tutorial where you gave a great explanation on how to use them. The photo is of my painting from the class.
They are the best brushes I have ever used! I have never been able to hold so much paint and paint with such precision before.
I am really glad I purchased them.

I like buying art supplies, and over the years, I have bought many Chinese or Japanese brushes. For many years, I looked for brushes that would give me the right look for chinoiserie painting, but something wasn't quite right. Then I finally decided to purchase Diane's brushes, and I had an "ah-ah" moment! Trust me, save yourself the hassle of purchasing all sorts of brushes, the disappointment and the time. If you are serious about learning Chinoiserie, just get the set of brushes and take good care of it, the brushes are great quality and last really long.
Store owner replied:
Thank you so much Raphael! I’m so glad the brushes have been the perfect fit for your work :)
This brush set is incredible if you’re interested I learning the Chinoiserie style of painting or just painting anything in watercolor. I love how these brushes carry the paint across the page for miles and don’t dry out but they also don’t drip all over the page either. And then the skinny brush has been great for super fine details. LOVE this set!
Store owner replied:
Thank you Hailey, ’m delighted to hear the brushes are working so well for you! They really are perfect for those fine details :)
I recently purchased a detail brush from Diane Hill, and it has been an absolute joy to use! The brush is incredibly smooth, making it effortless to create fine, precise details. What sets it apart is how well it holds paint—I can continue working on intricate sections without having to constantly stop and reload. I’ve used many detail brushes over the years, but this one has quickly become my favorite. If you’re looking for a high-quality brush that elevates your artwork, I highly recommend this one!
Store owner replied:
Thanks Archie, I am glad you like your brush!
I just received my Chinoiserie starter kit and it is everything promised! I can’t wait to start painting. Thank you Diane for this luxurious painting set.
Hi Diane I love, love the three brushes, versatile worth every penny as these are the only types of brushes you need for painting blending and fine lines. Thank you.

I'm so happy you're enjoying your brushes Anna!
These brushes are WORTH IT!!! I have never painted but have always wanted to. I draw with number 2 pencils because I can control the lines and erase. I was hoping Diane Hill's Detail Brush would help me control paint well enough that I would begin painting. It just DID/DOES!!! Today I painted!
I was too intimidated to use the brush for almost three months. I kept drawing chinoiserie designs for painting later. Today I took the leap and it was relaxing! It was relaxing because of how well the detail brush performs. (I haven't used the larger ones yet...baby steps.) The brush gives incredible control and I can only imagine the control possible with ample practice.
Here is my first painting and it is painted on cheap cardstock using a dime store watercolor set. The detail brush is the only brush I used. I'm excited to see how the brush will work on watercolor paper or better quality paper of some sort. Thank you Diane! You're brush opened up a colorful world to me today.
With Gratitude,
Evangeline

just a few doodles with my new brushes, they're fantastic, I'm a complete convert. I've been looking for new Japanese brush set as my beautiful favourite friends came to an end of their life a few years ago. These are a happy replacement, thank you. :)
