A tour of my Bridgerton inspired bedroom sanctuary

I’d always dreamed of creating the perfect bedroom sanctuary, somewhere elegant to relax and unwind at the end of a long day.

Finally, my dreams have come true in the shape of this gorgeous chinoiserie chic space!

I first posted about my chinoiserie bedroom makeover on Instagram a little while ago. The feedback I received was incredible, so I thought I’d share a bit more detail about how I got the look and the suppliers that helped bring my ideas to life.

First things first: Walls and woodwork

Waking up to my Florence wallpaper always makes me feel happy. It’s super summery and forever joyful.

The design’s got a great amount of background space, so it works well on all four walls and really does make the room feel bigger.

Florence has a wide 2.8 meter repeat, which creates a lovely bespoke feel just like a wall mural and the design is tall too, so it’s an ideal choice for walls up to 3 meters high.

I painted the windowsill, coving, architrave, shelves and skirting all in Sanderson Window Blue paint. It’s not the largest of rooms, so I chose the same colour to keep things feeling bright and airy.

Facebook furniture

I’m really passionate about upcycling, so Facebook Marketplace is always my go-to if I need something ‘new’.

I try to minimise waste wherever possible, and this chest of drawers ticks every box. Not only is it incredibly sturdy (as older pieces often are), but it also fits the room like it’s been there since day one.

My original Ikea bedside cabinets have been transformed too. I’ve swapped out the handles for a more luxurious feel and used Sanderson Paint in Tropical Palm to complete a full furniture facelift.

I’ve kept the colour scheme consistent to ensure a cohesive look, making sure it doesn’t compete with the wallpaper mural and coordinating fabric.

Heading to bed

I absolutely adore this headboard – it’s a bespoke piece made for me by the talented team at Headboard Workshop. For some reason headboards always feel so grown up, it’s amazing to have one and definitely adds a glamorous touch to the room.

Attention to detail

The lampshade is hand made in Derby by a lovely company called Beauvamp. It casts the most magical soft umbrella of light across the room in the evening, and who can resist those tassels!

I decided to hang the light low over the bed, so that the matching fabric doesn’t contrast too much with the rest of the room.

When it comes to cushions, Lady Alford and Marsha sit brilliantly together. Hand made using two of my chinoiserie fabrics, they bring a striking pop of colour to the bed, while, of course, being super comfortable!

Go for green!

I’ve used green accents throughout the room as it matches the leaves in Florence and ties in so well with all my other designs.

I knew I wanted a green lamp base, but finding the shade I had in mind was becoming an impossible task! So, I did what any self-respecting designer would do and got creative, painting a second hand cream base in a lovely, transformative garden green.

A decorative mirror from Oliver Bonas finishes the room perfectly. I was so pleased when I found it, and the lovely glass edge frame looks fantastic with the green in the wallpaper.

I’m so proud of this room – it’s got my heart and soul in every colour choice, every piece of furniture, every accessory and of course, in every chinoiserie fabric and wallpaper

The outcome is so wonderful, and it’s been a real pleasure to bring 18th century Chinese wallpapers to life in an inspiring, modern way.
