Oh, if there isn’t anything more joyful than these beautiful little birds! Julia is a marriage of a multitude of inspirations and really embodies my take on chinoiserie, shaking off some of the traditions and putting my own spin on it for a bright and beautiful chinoiserie art print that’s fun, uplifting and perfect for a modern audience. Julia is loosely inspired by William Morris layouts, in the way in which the vines travel across the page, whilst the little birds with treasures in their beaks are inspired by vintage greetings cards from the 1940’s which heavily featured birds carrying beautiful things.
The birds themselves, and the blossoming Peonies, are frequently seen in traditional chinoiserie pieces; the colours, however, are all my own style! These rich, turquoise, pink purple colours have my heart and it’s a signature of mine to add white tips to make things pop. I added stars for a playful, fresh feel that’s uplifting and adds a dash of sophisticated fun to any space. The Julia print was originally hand-painted onto pure silk, using natural brushes for the finest precision. Featuring many of my favourite things, Julia was named after one of my best friends.
The lighting, alignment and resolution of the original painting has been maintained using a precision scanner. This process creates a perfect reproduction of the original painting, including the soft texture of the woven silk and every fine brush stroke.
